What is S+?

S+ is a sleep system designed for use at home. It consists of three things:
  • The S+ unit itself – The first non-contact sleep sensor on the market
  • The S+ Mentor – A cloud-hosted system that gives you tailored feedback on improving your sleep.
  • The S+ Mobile App

Do I need to wear a wristband or any other equipment for S+ to track my sleep?

No. The S+ works without contact. So no wristbands, no mattress strips and no electrodes – nothing to distract you from sleeping peacefully. The S+ sensor collects detailed information about your sleep while you sleep easily, in your favorite position.

How do I track my sleep with S+?

S+ gives you daily, customized feedback on your sleep, and suggestions on how to improve it. You’ll also have a series of easy-to-use, interactive tools that allow you to work with your own sleep data, and to properly understand the way you sleep. The S+ analytic toolkit helps you understand short-term sleep concerns and longer-term trends, providing you with a range of options to see how your sleep evolves so you can set new, sleep-better goals.

Is S+ a medical device?

No. S+ is designed to help improve sleep through coaching and biofeedback. It is not a medical device. If you have concerns that sleep is affecting your health, you should consult your physician.

Do I need a smartphone to be able to use S+?

Yes. S+ works with select Apple® and Android™ smartphones. Here are the compatible phones and operating systems:
  • Apple® smart phones: iPhone® 4, 4s, 5s, 5c, 5, 6, 6+.
  • Apple® operating systems: iOS 6 and iOS 7.
  • Android™ smart phones: Samsung S3, S4, S5, Note 2, 3 and Moto G.
  • Android™ operating systems: 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich); 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3 (Jelly Bean); and 4.4 (KitKat).

Is S+ compatible with my iPad®?

S+ is fully compatible with iPad Mini™ and iPod Touch® (5th generation) and the USB power supply unit provided with S+ can also be used to charge these devices. S+ will also function on iPad® 2, 3, or 4 and on iPad Air™, but you must use your own tablet power supply unit and cable to charge any of these devices.

Where do I get the free S+ by ResMed app?

Please view the Quick Start Guide page for full details on app availability. Just a reminder, you will need a WiFi connection to download the app.

Where can I buy S+?

S+ can be purchased directly from www.mysplus.com and national retailers including Amazon, Bed Bath & Beyond and Best Buy.

What comes with my S+ purchase?

When you purchase S+ you’ll receive the S+ pod and a frame for holding the pod on your nightstand. A dual power supply unit and power cable is also part of the pack, along with a user manual and quick start guide.

What other equipment do I need to use S+?

In addition to the items included with your S+ purchase, you’ll need a compatible Bluetooth®-enabled smartphone. To use S+, download the free S+ by ResMed app, available from the Apple® App Store and Google Play™. To download the app, you’ll need access to WiFi. To make full use of the S+ features and programs, including customized sleep suggestions, you’ll need Bluetooth and internet access via WiFi, 3G or a 4G network.

Does the unit make any noise?

No. S+ operates silently, unless you are using the Smart Alarm, Relax to Sleep or Relax Daytime features. Using these features results in sound from the smart device used to run the S+ by ResMed app.

Can my bed partner and I both use the same unit?

Yes, the same S+ unit can be shared with more than one person, but can only capture information for one person at a time. We recommend that each user creates and tracks their sleep through their own individual account so that the S+ Mentor feedback can be tailored to each user’s specific sleep information and needs. The S+ unit needs to be placed on the side of the bed next to the person who it is tracking as it reads the person who is closest to it.

Will S+ measure my sleep accurately if I am sharing a bed?

Yes. The S+ is able to distinguish between two people in a bed and smart enough to measure the sleep pattern and body movements of only the person closest to the S+ unit.

Can two S+ units be used in the same room at the same time?

Currently, two units cannot be used in the room at the same time as they will interfere with each other and produce misleading results.

Do I need Bluetooth® to use the app?

Yes. Bluetooth® is needed to pair and connect your compatible smartphone to S+.

How much will it cost me to run the app and send the data over a mobile data network?

This will depend on your internet package. The app will upload approximately 2MB per night.

Is there anyone who shouldn’t use S+?

The S+ unit poses no known medical risk. However, people with Restless Leg Syndrome, or those who have children or pets that sleep in their beds with them and on the same side as the unit, may receive erroneous results. In addition, people using oxygen should not use this device.

Is it safe to use S+ when I am pregnant?

Yes, the S+ unit has not been found to pose any health risks during pregnancy to either mother or child.

Is S+ designed to monitor the sleep of children?

No S+ is not designed to monitor children’s sleep. Children naturally have a lower body mass index (BMI) than adults. A low BMI may not allow the S+ unit to successfully monitor a child’s breathing rate. Children also inherently move a lot more in their sleep compared to adults, and this would produce an inaccurate sleep score.

Can the S+ be used with the iOS Health app?

Yes, your S+ is fully integrated with iOS Healthkit.

What regions is S+ currently available in?

At the moment the S+ is only available in the US.

The S+ is showing me as being asleep whilst I’m reading before I actually fall asleep, why is this?

The S+ by ResMed uses a combination of body movements and respiration rate to determine what stage of sleep the user is in. It is possible that if a user remains very still for a long period of time that the S+ could be misled into thinking the user is in a light phase of sleep. We recommend that you only start a sleep session when you are ready to fall asleep.

What is the Sleep Report on the mySplus.com website?

The sleep report is a feature of the mysplus.com website that enables the user to generate a report that can be used to inform a discussion with a physician about their quality of their sleep. It summarizes your sleep data, profile information and daily feedback into a concise report. Simply choose the end date of your report and the 28 days preceding days will be selected automatically. The report will then be emailed to the registered email address for your account.
